Board of Education Approves Recommendation to Adjust Proposed Consolidation Boundary Line

March 14, 2017

At the March 13, 2017 Board of Education meeting Dr Karen Couch asked for approval for a change in the proposed boundary lines for consolidation. The area affected is in the area of Earl Nicholson Rd and Rt 20. The new proposed boundary would have students East of Baker’s Lane go to HH Garnet instead of Rock Hall. This would also include those student in Broadneck.

Couch said that this would affect appropriately 35 students and addressed the biggest concerns from parents. She stated that many of the parents of children in this area would be requesting Out of Zone placement.

The boundary change would change the the school population and building rated capacity to:
GALES: 334 – 70% of Rated Capacity
HHGES: 385 – 77% of Rated Capacity
RHES: 246 – 86% of Rated Capacity

A Kindergarten teacher originally slated for Rock Hall would be at Garnet instead.

The recommendation for the change is to have the map change put it on Web site and notification to parents. As of this writing the Map has not been modified on the Web site.
