Taylor Harcum – Shorewoman of the Week

Junior softball player Taylor Harcum (Hebron, Md./Mardela) is this week’s Shorewoman of the Week. Harcum went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the circle and hit .385 in a 4-0 week for the Shorewomen.

Harcum allowed just four hits and struck out nine batters while walking none in her first complete-game win of the week, an 8-0 five-inning victory over Swarthmore Tuesday. Three days later, she allowed one unearned run on five hits and no walks while striking out two batters in another complete-game win as the Shorewomen beat Dickinson, 7-1.

In four games at the plate this week, Harcum went 5-for-13 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, and three RBIs.

This is the second Shorewoman of the Week honor this season for Harcum and the third of her career. Yesterday, she was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.

Alex Smith – Shoreman of the Week

Senior sailor Alex Smith (Wantagh, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) is this week’s Shoreman of the Week. Smith’s strong finish as a skipper at the Leroy Grant Trophy over the weekend helped propel the sailing team to a spot in the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Championships.

Smith and crew Allison Cochran finished third, fifth, and third, in the final three A Division races at the Grant Trophy. The two third-place finishes were the team’s best A Division finishes of the weekend and proved crucial to Washington’s overall third-place finish, which enabled the team to secure one of the final six berths in the America Trophy.

This is the third career Shoreman of the Week honor for Smith.
