If you were near Kent County High School this morning around 10am, you may have been wondering why all the fire engines, ambulances and the Medi-Vac Helicopter was there. The Kent County High School along with assistance from many of the county’s Fire Companies, the Sheriff’s Office, FHM Funeral Home, State Police and others held a Mock Accident recreation for the Junior and Seniors. Tomorrow May 20th is Prom and the purpose of this recreation was to provide students with information on the consequences of impaired driving and promote safe driving choices.
The students were first called into the auditorium where they saw a video of what could be considered the final consequences of the accident. The driver of the vehicle in fault being sentenced to the maximum prison time for underage driving under the influence, causing the death of one classmate and life altering injury to another, and resisting arrest.
The Juniors and Senators then went out to the parking lot to see the two car accident and witness the actions of those involved accident, witnesses, family members, the fire and rescue responders, the police and even the funeral director taking the ‘dead’ body from the scene.
