Trooper Involved Collision in Cecil County

Maryland State Police North East Barrack investigated a motor vehicle collision that occurred when a trooper’s patrol car collided with another motorist at an intersection in Elkton, Cecil County.

The trooper involved is identified as Trooper Philippi, a two-year veteran of the Maryland State Police assigned to the Centreville Barrack. Trooper Philippi was transported to Union Hospital where he is being treated for minor non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle involved is identified as Mr. Jonah Taylor, 23, of Fort Edwards, NY. Mr. Taylor was not injured and remained on the scene.

Preliminary investigation reveals that on October 9, 2017 at approximately 1:04 PM, Trooper Philippi was operating a 2011 marked Maryland State Police Ford Crown Victoria and traveling southbound on MD 279 approaching MD 213. Mr. Taylor was operating a 2012 beige Chevrolet Cruze and was traveling northbound on MD 279 approaching the intersection at MD 213. Trooper Philippi was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound MD 213 as he and Mr. Taylor simultaneously entered the intersection. Subsequently, Mr. Taylor collided into the passenger side of Trooper Philippi’s patrol vehicle.
